Kitchen Trends in 2022: Style to Efficiency

The kitchen is often the epicenter of the home. It’s where you cook, eat, visit with your family, hang with friends, complete work, pay bills, and much more. Suffice it to say, it’s an important room. You want your kitchen to be a place of style, convenience, and functionality – which means you’ll need to know the trends that are driving kitchen design in 2022.

Kitchen Design Trends

two-toned cabinets

1. Two-Toned Cabinet Colors

The first trend to consider on our list is the two-toned cabinet style and popular colors. Whites and light grays are all the rage at the moment, but if you’re looking to break up the monotone look and give your kitchen a bit of personality, a two-toned kitchen cabinet style is ideal. Two-toned kitchen cabinets not only work seamlessly with both colors and neutrals, they make for an interesting focal point in your kitchen.

2. Quartz Countertops

Engineered quartz has many of the same positive characteristics of granite such as beauty, durability, and strength, but offers even more benefits. While granite has remained a strong contender for top dog in the kitchen counter arena, there’s a new player in the game in the form of quartz. It’s a trending kitchen addition for good reason. Quartz countertops are essentially indestructible and they allow you some design freedom because you can get your quartz countertops in a wide variety of colors.

self-closing drawers

3. Self-Closing Drawers

This amazing upgrade to your kitchen cabinets seems to work like magic. As soon as you push the drawer to close it, the self-closing drawer mechanism will pull the drawer all the way closed, easing it shut, softly. Talk about efficiency! You no longer have to go back and shut drawers that have sneakily slid back open, plus no more loud drawer slamming sounds to break up your kitchen serenity!

pot fillers

4. Pot Filler

Carrying pots from your sink to the stove can be cumbersome and impractical, not to mention messy. Install a pot filler for easy access to water right at your stovetop. You might even forget you’re in your own home and dream for a moment that you are working in the kitchen of a five-star restaurant. This addition is a great way to increase efficiency in the kitchen and shows that you’re serious about the functionality of your space.

5. Gold Accents and/or Hardware

Another way to update your current kitchen is to incorporate gold accents or hardware. That’s right, gold is making a comeback! Gold is a trending finish in 2022, and adding this to your cabinets and/or upgrading faucets and other hardware is an inexpensive way to show off your own style and bring your kitchen into the modern age.

6. Hidden Appliances

This trend is both efficient and stylish. Install a microwave, warming drawer, and even a trash can underneath your counters. This essentially hides the clutter you want to keep out of sight, specifically your glamorous trash can. Placing items like coffee makers, toasters, and microwaves in a conveniently hidden location such as an appliance garage (pictured above) is a great way to free up counter space and give a much cleaner look to your kitchen space – after all, they are designed to blend seamlessly with your cabinetry.

Extra Counter Space and/or Double Islands

There is no such thing as too much counter space in a kitchen. Interestingly enough, 2022 is ushering in a rededication to space. Opt for extra counter space by installing double islands. Serve off of one, prepare off another. Work off one, eat off the other, etc. Use the space to promote efficiency and get everyone involved in meal prep.
